In 1920's, after the "war to end all wars", with prosperity on the horizon, people want to sport their fashions.
Watchmakers were not left behind - fresh, unusual and even bizarre ideas surfaced and we saw the introduction of wristwatches with cushion, tonneau and large curved hinged cases. Exaggerated, even outlandish illegible numerals were used and there was no limit to the shapes and designs - which look futuristic to the uninitiated but truly ART DECO.
The wrist watches of the 1920's
were certainly an intrinsic part of the fashion of the times.
These large, distorted and "fun" watches with exploding or exaggerated numbers
are fondly sought after by present collectors (myself included)
and replicated by today's large watch houses for obvious reasons...............

Case measures 24mm excluding crown, 26mm including crown and 35mm lug to lug. The whole watch length is 172mm, excluding the joining part at the clasp. On the top case, you see some very nice details created with hands. Near 1:00 position, there is a figure with both hands in the air, LEAPING WITH JOY, how appropriate, at the time of listing this watch today, it is the 29th Feb 08, a leap day in the leap year !!!!!! And this feature is found at many parts of the watch, on the case and the bracelet !! Flip the watch and you will see a 925 hallmark and number # 036 engraved on to the case.
