yellow, corresponding to the outer 5 to 60 minutes markers and the 60 mins

RARE ENGLISH GEORGIAN STERLING SILVER
ENAMEL COMPASS, FULL HUNTER CASE Ca.1795
A compass is a navigational
instrument that measures directions in a frame of
reference that is stationary relative to the surface of
the earth. The frame of reference defines the four
cardinal directions (or points) –
north, south, east, and west.
There are two widely used and radically different types
of compass. The
magnetic compass contains a magnet that interacts with
the earth's magnetic field and aligns itself to point to
the magnetic poles. The
gyro
compass
contains a rapidly spinning wheel whose rotation
interacts dynamically with the rotation of the earth so
as to make the wheel precess, losing energy to friction
until its axis of rotation
is parallel with the earth's.
The magnetic compass was invented during the Chinese Cao
Wei Dynasty between the 3rd century CE and 4th century
AD, and was used for navigation by the 11th century. The
compass was introduced to medieval Europe 150 years
later, where the dry compass was invented around 1300.
This was supplanted in the early 20th century by the
liquid-filled magnetic compass.

very rare SOLID ROSE GOLD JUMP HOUR wristwatch dating
from the 1920s. Most jump hour examples you see
are in stainless steel or chromeplated cases, one
in solid rose gold is very rare & hard to come by...
Bob: I know you are
made of solid gold, but I am big & standing tall.
Hooper: I am wearable on the wrist, slimmer & do
not need to diet.
Bob: I am older vintage &
tell clearer time., which is 8:20 now.
Hooper: I am only
slightly younger but I tell time to the exact second, &
the time now is 8:20 am 42 second ...
Bob: My name is engraved on
the front case.
Hooper: My beautiful
details are on the case back.
Bob: I run for 8 Days!!!
Hooper: Ok, ok.... one
thing for sure, we are both VERY RARE!!
Bob: Yes, I will shake your
hand for that & I must admit a solid rose gold model is
darn good looking.

There are three revolving
discs viewed through the apertures in the front of the
case. The top disc displays the hours, the middle disc
displays the minutes & the bottom one displays the
seconds. All discs are original, in excellent clean &
fully legible condition.

This is a very interesting vintage chronograph for a few
reasons:
1. It is larger than normal (38mm) vintage chronos of
the same era,
2. It has got DATE function,
3. It has a special fluted bezel, usually seen on
Rolexes,
4. It has a screw down back case,
most are with snap back case.

9:00, subsidiary seconds register at 3:00. Date aperture at 6:00.

If you are a rare book & watch lover like me,
this is something special for you. A very
unique GP watch shaped like a book, leather bound. Circa
1950s, famously known as Hour Book. A
petite
desk clock with a small 10 1/2 ligne wrist watch
movement. A watch one would place on the desk or take it
along when travelling. So, if you have
not read a book for a while, this is a good reason to
hold one in your hands & "read" the time from it . . .

Signed Girard-Perregaux 17 JEWELS VIERLINGER SA SWISS MADE. Original hands set
with full numerals markers. Subsidiary seconds register
at 6:00 . C/
Original leather bound
case shaped like a book.
The watch case can be opened to be displayed on the desk
or closed when placed in the pocket to avoid damage.
Look at the edges of the book, the details of the pages
are so nicely crafted to look like the pages of an old
rare book
with the right hue & shade of colors!!! .
The leather book cover
measures 50mm by 55mm with the watch measuring 25mm
by 23mm.

GP signed mechanical winding movement keeps accurate time.
Vierlinger SA was the importer of GP timepieces in Peru
in the 1950's to 1960's. Constant Girard-Perregaux's
brother-in-law Henri Perregaux, a watchmaker himself,
gave up watchmaking around 1865 and, after becoming a
partner of the GP brand, moved to Buenos Aires where he
was head of the distribution, so this is one of many
unusual pieces that made it to South America.
I have seen only a few of this Hour Book over the past
years, but none is as nice condition as this we present
here. Look at the fine condition of the leather
cover!!!! Must have been previously owned &
treasured by a book buff . . . very nice.
