Memosail Valjoux 7737 COLORFUL Yacht Chronograph Watch, 1970s.

D: Original dial with various details. Before the start of a sailboat race, there are two guns, the first gun signals that the race will start in 10 minutes. At the 10-minute gun the sailors start their count down functions and maneuver their boats as close to the start line as possible for the start. The countdown numbers are large so the skipper can instantly see how much time has elapsed. The countdown chronograph is very unusual in that it is a wheel beneath the dial much like a date wheel. In the stopped position, the wheel displays "START". When the chronograph is activated with the pusher at 2 o'clock, the timer begins and the orange sweep hand is set into action. At 30 seconds, the wheel does a half turn and at 60 seconds it does a full turn to indicate 1 minute of elapsed time. The number 10 will also come into view on the wheel, which is the first minute that has elapsed of the 10-minute countdown. This will continue for 10 minutes until the wheel has fully revolved, and countdown passes the 1 minute mark and the race begins. The first 5 minutes of the wheel are yellow with black numbers, and the last five minutes are red with white numbers. It can also be used for a 15-minute timer as the word "START" is broken up into 5 letters, which can be used as a 15-minute countdown.

D: 100% original and MINT Condition beautiful silver dial with black ART DECO numerals signed ED HEUER & CIE, SWISS. Red tachymeter. There are 7 ORIGINAL BLUED STEEL hands altogether on this complicated timepiece. The register at 12:00 is the moonphase plus date disc, the one at 9:00 for the subsidiary second hand, 30 minute register at 3:00 and 12 hour register at 6:00. The 4 registers are framed with gold ring to give them contrast to the pearly white silver dial. The Moonphase/date disc is intentionally enlarged to give the owner an easy reading of the date of the day as this is probably the most used function on a daily basis.
C: Housed in its original gold-filled top case (with light signs of wear) with stainless steel back case measuring 34mm excluding crown, 37mm including and 41mm from lug to lug. Look at the lugs, with special design matching the stepped design of the bezel. The Flying Officer - "The Watch that Helped our Allied Forces Win World War II". ZENITH 1920s PERFECT ENAMEL DIAL

**Enameling is a unique genre of the fine arts. It begins when a special vitreous material is melted in a kiln at a temperature of circa 1,200 degree Celsius, followed by cold shock procedure called quenching before it is mixed with fine enamel powder and applied evenly onto a thoroughly cleaned metal substrate. Afterwards, the object is fired in a special kiln at temperatures ranging between 800 and 900 degree Celsius. Enamel's peculiar vulnerability to flaws at this phase in the work results from the surface tensions which arise during this stage of the manufacturing process. ALL THESE WERE DONE BY HAND !! Considering the extraordinary high percentage of imperfect specimens which emerge from the kiln, it is little wonder that enamel dials are comparatively costly and that watches equipped with such dials, especially those with PERFECT DIALS are precious rarities.

** Nowadays, most watch dials are made of metal, which has been processed, galvanized and printed in numerous production stages. But long ago, watch dials were frequently crafted from a material that has since lapsed into near oblivion: enamel.

Enameling is a unique genre of the fine arts. It begins when a special vitreous material is melted in a kiln at a temperature of circa 1,200 degree Celsius, followed by cold shock procedure called quenching before it is mixed with fine enamel powder and applied evenly onto a thoroughly cleaned metal substrate. Afterwards, the object is fired in a special kiln at temperatures ranging between 800 and 900 degree Celsius. Enamel's peculiar vulnerability to flaws at this phase in the work results from the surface tensions which arise during this stage of the manufacturing process. ALL THESE WERE DONE BY HAND !! Considering the extraordinary high percentage of imperfect specimens which emerge from the kiln, it is little wonder that enamel dials are comparatively costly and that watches equipped with such dials, especially those with COLORFUL DIALS (like this HIGH LIFE), are precious rarities.

This is a very rare and highly sought after vintage Valjoux 723(a.k.a 72C) HEUER CARRERA 12 DATO REF:2547S Tripledate/calendar chronograph Circa 1964.

It has the look closely approximate the Vintage Rolex Model Ref: 6236, which is the vintage version of triplecalendar chronograph from Rolex which also used the SAME Valjoux movement. But of course the price of the ROLEX version is astronomical (more than US$100,000) now !!!!!    Thus the potential value appreciation of this HEUER version cannot and should not be under-estimated.

C: Housed in a very good ORIGINAL UNPOLISHED condition FULL Stainless Steel Original case with snapback. The LARGE Case measures 36mm excluding crown, 39 including and 42mm from lug to lug. Original Heuer signed crown and original round water proof pushers.

Although there used to be an Ingenieur with a stopwatch function, what has never existed before is one with a fully fledged mechanical chronograph. Now, all that has changed with the arrival of THIS Ingenieur Chronograph from IWC, with its automatic 79350 calibre chronograph movement, small seconds hand with stop function and a chronograph with a central seconds hand and 30-minute counter. It has everything you would expect of a precision timepiece. And because the 4 Hz movement is able to display times to an accuracy of one-eighth of a second.

Another example of the watch's high-tech design is the outstanding reliability of the timing functions. This is guaranteed by the push buttons, which are an integral part of the case. True forerunners of the watch industry, SCHWARZ ETIENNE operated several factories involved in design and assembly. Its know-how and mastery in watch design became a real benchmark. SCHWARZ ETIENNE thus obtained the concession to continue producing movements, even when they were subject to quotas and controlled by Ebauche SA. Its complications were to be found in brands such as Venus, Levrette, Glorys, Alpha and Astin, which were all part of its customer circle.

D: Original 2 tone silver/grey dial aged evenly with nice patina, very charming, indeed. Love the layout of the dial especially the large numbers, 3 & 9 with straight line markers. So clear and simple. Not to mention the 2 tone effect which enhances the profile of the chronograph registers. The register at 12:00 records the time lapsed upto 30 minutes and the one at 6:00 shows the constant seconds hand. Original blued steel hands. Look at the extra broad hour and minute hands !!! Some serious considerations have been put in on the design table...

As you are probably aware, ZENITH has an exact model named ESPADA with similar features. This is because Zenith and Movado were sister companies in the 1960's-70's. As evidenced in one of the pictures, with a product tagline "MOVADO - A ZENITH TIME PRODUCT".

I understand that according to the Zenith archives; only 200 of these were ever produced: 100 Movado Astronics and 100 Zenith Espadas.... So this is a very desirable and hard to find complicated timepiece, the value of which will only appreciate over time. Be ONE OF THE ONLY FEW in the world to own this beautiful timepiece now !!!!!
