BREITLING GENEVE AUTO DIVER, 1960/70s

Breitling Genève, "Automatic, 20 ATM.".  Produced in the 1960/70's. Fine center-seconds, self-winding, water-resistant, stainless steel diver's wristwatch with date.

D: NEAR MINT Original black dial with tritium-coated Arabic numerals and indexes, aperture for the date display in red Arabic numerals.  Broad arrow tritium-coated steel hands.

The dial is in near mint condition. Any marks you see are just camera reflections.

C: Three-body, polished and brushed, screwed-down case back.  Original crown, graduated revolving bezel for the decompression times.  Original Crystal with "Cyclops" lens. Worth noting is the special cyclops len which is placed "inside" the crystal, i.e. the surface of the crystal is smooth, unlike Rolex's which is protruding.  Measuring 36 x 39 x 45mm.

M: Cal. 818, rhodium-plated, 17 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance, shock-absorber, self-compensating flat balance-spring.

Most Breitling watches you see are Chronographs, this is a very rare non-chronograph Breitling with such beautiful dial and hands.  The only other one I have seen so far was sold by Antiquorum in 2002.  RARE??   Personally I just love the way the dial and hands aged, exuding a very nice vintage patina, LOVELY !!

HISTORY : The story of the Manufacture d'Horlogerie Enicar S.A. started in 1914, with the watchmaker Ariste Racine responsible for the foundation of the watch factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds.    The "Sherpa" name given to hard-wearing sports watches has a more precise connotation. In 1956, members of a Swiss Himalayan expedition relied on Enicar timepieces, and their expectations were fully met.

From then on the Enicar collection included such models as the "Sherpa Time", "Sherpa Ultradive", "Sherpa Star", "Sherpa Jet" and "Sherpa" chronographs in various executions and are now highly sought after by collectors.

VERY UNUSUAL MORTIMA THERMOMETER & COMPASS WATCH.   According to Pieter Doensen's book, Mortima created these steel spiral bimetal thermometer compass wristwatches in 1956.   A spy watch? Well if Dr Q was introduced to this watch, it would probably be one of James Bond's many gadgets.

EXTREMELY RARE, VERY HARD TO COME BY, EXTRA LARGE (155mm x 70mm) MOVADO ERMETO PULLMAN , 8 DAYS TRAVELLING CLOCK WITH ALARM !!!  THIS IS THE BIGGEST OF THEM ALL !!!! EXTRA LARGE “PULLMAN” MODEL !!!

THE HISTORY:  In 1926, Movado began to market a watch enclosed by a rectangular case and called the “Ermeto”.  This daring watch design deviated even further from the typical pocket watch. With respect to unconventionality the Ermeto was, following the Polyplan, a second great success.   The name Ermeto comes from the Greek and originally meant sealed (against the ingress of air and water). The designation “Ermeto” for the Movado model is only intended to suggest protection of the watch against external influences and the watch is vastly better protected than it is with a normal pocket watch case.  Movado launched the Ermeto in the market with a lavish advertising campaign in 1926 - Movado’s FIRST BIG campaign to promote a new product !!! There were four different sizes of Ermeto:

1. The largest was called “Pullman”, from the American express train of the same name. Some with alarm. YOU ARE LOOKING AT THE “PULLMAN 8 DAYS ALARM ” NOW !!
2. Followed by the smaller version named, “Master”
3. Then “Normal” size model,
4. The smallest was called “Baby” Ermeto.

I HAVE HANDLED MANY SMALLER VERSIONS, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I GOT HOLD OF THE LARGEST ONE !!!  EVEN THE PIECE SHOWN IN THE BOOK: THE MOVADO HISTORY, IS ON LOAN FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTOR !!!!

C:  EXTRA LARGE 100% Original rectangular case 155mm x 70mm when opened. 103mm when closed.  The case is upholstered with black leather with very nice grains.  Original Case with reference number 710836.  LARGE Original winding crown with unique design.

There is a stand on the back that allows the watch to be placed in a standing position. When closed the leather covered case protect the watch whilst you move...

D: 100% Original BLACK DIAL with LUMINOUS MARKERS. Very nice SQUARE FRAMED chapter ring with alarm hour & minute markers in the center of the dial.   The dial is signed ERMETO, 8 DAYS,,MOVADO, SWISS MADE.   Original white luminous hands . Stainless steel Alarm hand.   Look closely and you will notice that the shape of the hands matches the markers !!!

M: High grade 100% Original MOVADO Signed mechanical movement.   Winding through the crown clockwise to wind up the watch movement. Anti-clock wise to wind up the alarm. Winds and runs properly. LOUD alarm function. Alarm may need a little adjustments by watchmaker.  Time adjustment is through the crown. The alarm function is adjusted by pushing the small button in the middle of the crown. Quite an interesting design.

D: 100% Original grey/black dial in very good condition.  2 tone with the hour chapter in beige color, giving a very nice contrast over the grey/black dial.  Together with the Original BROAD ARROW mystery hand and the minute hand shaped in a round DOT, the design makes time telling an easy task, one glance and the time is clearly shown on the dial with a FLOATING effect.    The other important feature of this watch is the 100% original crystal which is in MINT UNUSED Condition.  Unlike most watches where the brand's signature is usually on the dial, this special watch has it on the crystal that reads: LONGINES COMET.

RARE, clean & nice looking Early 1920s Enamel dial wrist watch with FULL HUNTER .925 Sterling silver case.  Beside the near perfect condition enamel dial (i.e. no hairlines, no crack), I love the black & white contrasting look.   In the early 1910/20s, Full hunter cases were made to protect the watch dial and crystal when its owner was riding on his horse while hunting for his prey.     Now, it works more than just that, it is also a very strong fashion statement and a SURE CONVERSATION PIECE.  And guess what? Only you get to see the watch and the time, and only when you want it !!!!!   So when you are not bothered by the time, it works as another mysterious accessory and your friends will be wondering "What is that he is wearing???" 

C:  Original sterling silver case with fixed wire lugs in very good condition.  Both top and bottom cases are fully signed and hallmarked with same reference number 187107.   The Top Cover hinges on the case around 10:00.  When the button at 4:00 is pressed, it flips to a 45 degree angle that gives you the perfect view of the watch and its time.  ATTENTION TO DETAILS AND HUMAN TECHNOLOGY, PERFECT !!!     Case measures 35mm excluding crown, 38mm including and 35mm from lug to lug.    Original large Onion crown !!!

D: 100% Original enamel/porcelain dial in very good condition. No hairline cracks etc.   Beautiful BLACK and WHITE contrasting color combination.  Original hands and subseconds hand. Clear domed Crystal.

It is actually the World's FIRST Wrist Alarm made for the ladies, making it the world's SMALLEST Wrist Alarm ever made.  Its golden alarm-diaphragm made it as sweet sounding as its name.
